Metamora man faces Tennessee competency hearing in murder of little girl

Cocke County, Tenn. — A Metamora man will face competency hearing in a case involvi9ng the murder of a 2-year-old girl in Newport, Tennessee.

On September 18 a Cocke County judge will determine if Bobby Scott Pennington, 25, is competent to face trial for first degree murder and child abuse. The charges result from a July 2015 incident when Pennington was watching the children while the mother was away at work.

If convicted Pennington could serve a mandatory life sentence in prison.
