Mayor pleads for community to take Covid seriously

Batesville, IN — The Indiana Hospital Association is stating that Hoosiers need to take the steps to prevent COVID-19 now, as hospitals are suffering from the overflow of patients again. In a release from IHA, they say hospitalizations across the state are up 164% since October 1, and reached an all-time high rate since the start of the pandemic.

Locally, there have been significantly high numbers reported. Mayor Mike Bettice outlined last week at the City Council meeting that since October 14, the number of Batesville residents testing positive reached an all-time high. Mayor Bettice again highlighted these numbers on Monday’s Mayor’s Daily Briefing. On October 14 the Batesville zip code had a total of 126 people that had tested positive with COVID-19, on Monday, 294. That is an increase of 168 new positives in one month.  Mayor Bettice emotionally pleaded, “Set aside some of your political thoughts and think of this not as Republican or Democrat, and think about this as Batesville.  So this is our town and I need everybody to find it in your heart to do the right thing.  Not only for yourself or your family but for everyone else in our community.”
