Mary Ellen Thieman, 92, of Versailles passed away at 6:10pm, Friday, June 4, 2021 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Barwick in Breathitt County, Kentucky on September 4, 1928 the daughter of Kelly and Erasta Stidham Day. She was married to Omer Thieman on June 5, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 2, 1983. Survivors include one son Randy (Rhonda) Thieman of Cross Plains; one daughter Earlene Schwanholt of Columbus; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Tom (Lorine) Day of Versailles; two sisters Pruda Setser and Pauline (Irvin) Hart both of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Harlan, Joe, and Dale Day, and her sister Lillie Mae Hisle. Mrs. Thieman was a 1946 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She had worked for several years as a cook at the Cross Plains School and also as a custodian for the South Ripley schools, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed crocheting as well as spending time with her large family. Mary Ellen was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11th at 10:30am at the Versailles Church of Christ with Mary Ellen’s son Randy along with Bro. Logan Fugate officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30am until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Ripley Crossing, Margaret Mary Hospice, or the Versailles Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
