Mark Joseph Melton, 68, of Westport, Indiana passed away on January 12, 2024. He was born on November 8, 1955 in Centerville, Ohio, the son of James Irvin, Sr. and Muriel (Henry) Melton. Mark was a 1974 graduate of South Decatur High School. He was a member of the Westport Christian Church. He worked as an EMT for Columbus Regional Hospital and later became an electrician. Mark enjoyed racing go karts for many years. He loved to listen to classic rock in his classic cars. But the one thing that brought him the most joy was being a true family man. He took that title seriously and was there for our family as well as many of our family friends. He is a hero to many. His legacy of love, compassion and resilience will continue to live on.
Survivors include: Daughter, Emmy Melton (Adam); Son, Shawn (Krystle) Hendricks; Grandchildren, Mason Dauer, Kyzer Williams, Tabatha (Warren) Kopp, Joey (Kindra) Hendricks and Olivia Hendricks; Great Grandchildren, Deklin Kopp, Daxin Kopp and Liam Hendricks; and Sister, Kathy Melton. He was preceded in death by his Parents; and Brothers, Mike Melton and Jim Melton.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Pastor Mike Bartlett will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
