Marjorie Ann Barrett, of Brookville, Indiana was born on September 2, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter to Alfred C. and Marie Schum Brown. After graduating from Brookville High School she attended Indiana University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Business. Marge met David P. Barrett while in college and they married on August 22, 1959, in Brookville. Many will remember Marge not just as a teacher at Brookville High School but as President of A.B. Beverage Company, the family business she ran for over 25 years. She gave countless hours to her community working with the Franklin County Community Foundation and was a board member for 10 years. Marge was instrumental in the Foundation’s first fund-raising events, including the large galas Picture Perfect which provided matching funds from the Lilly Endowment and the Heritage Ball during Brookville’s Bicentennial. She was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Marge was such a loving and caring person who always had a smile on her face, had an authentic encouraging word to all and never met a stranger. On Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of eighty-seven she passed away with her loved ones by her side.
Those surviving who will cherish Marge’s memory include her husband of over 65 years, David Barrett; sons, Timothy (Kirsten) Barrett, Brian (Michelle) Barrett; daughter, Deborah Barrett, and four grandchildren, David, Rex, Grant and Jade Barrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Dean Barrett and her brother, James R. Brown.
Friends may gather and remember Marge on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Father Vincent Lampert will officiate the Catholic Rite at the funeral home at 1 p.m. and burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
