Man arrested with over 100 grams of methamphetamine

Columbus, IN — A Columbus man was arrested on several felony drug charges after his vehicle was stopped, and officers located over 100 grams of methamphetamine on Tuesday afternoon in Columbus.

An officer from the Columbus Police Department’s Intelligence-Led Policing Unit, which is comprised of law enforcement officers from the Columbus Police Department as well as the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, stopped a vehicle near 11th Street and Washington Street as a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle, Charles A. Sims, 45, of Columbus who was argumentative and was reaching under his seat as the officer initially approached the vehicle.
The officer requested a law enforcement canine to respond to the scene and a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office canine and officer arrived a short time later. The canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle and Sims was detained. During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers located a large amount of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat of Sims’ vehicle. Officers also located cocaine and prescription pills inside the car.

Sims was arrested and charged on allegations of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Dealing in a Narcotic Drug, Possession of Methamphetamine,  two counts of Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Level 3 and Level 5 Felonies), and Possession of Cocaine.
