Greensburg, IN — Several law enforcement agencies were involved in a multi-county vehicle pursuit that began in Greensburg Thursday night and resulted in a Central Indiana man’s arrest.
Greensburg Police officers responded to the 2700 block of North Michigan Avenue shortly after 10 pm after someone reported a reckless driver.
Officers were told that the driver of a dark-colored car did not have his headlights on and that he was driving in circles on North Michigan Avenue.
Police say when they arrived and put on their emergency lights, the driver – identified as Michael T. Hughes of Fortville – took off from the scene.
Investigators say Hughes led Greensburg Police officers and Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase in which he drove left of center, blew past stop signs, and failed to signal turns.
The pursuit went into Bartholomew County, and tire-deflating devices were successfully deployed, which brought the chase to an end.
Hughes was arrested and booked in the Decatur County Detention Center, where he was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon (both Level 6 felonies), Reckless Driving (Class B misdemeanor), and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class C misdemeanor).
The Greensburg Police Department was assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur County Central Dispatch, the Hope and Columbus police departments, and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
