Adult programming director Rachael Berkemeier said the library builds its schedule around community interest.
“We always try to listen to our patron feedback and try to provide things for all ages,” Berkemeier said.
Among the next activities is an adult craft event. “We also, on January 15th, have a beaded chain activity,” Berkemeier said. “You can make an eyeglass chain, a bracelet, a necklace, that’s an adult craft.”
Another addition begins this Monday (Jan. 19) with Mahjong, held every other Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. “You can come and learn how to play,” Berkemeier said. “You can just have an opportunity to play with others who already know how to play.”
The library remains open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 19), with programs scheduled that day.
The monthly book club meets this Tuesday (Jan. 20) to discuss Project Hail Mary, and Berkemeier encouraged readers who may not typically choose science fiction to give it a try. “It’s a science fiction, but don’t let that scare you,” she said. “So part of a book club is to challenge and broaden your horizons.”
Later in the month, patrons can swap puzzles during a library exchange. “You just bring in your gently used puzzles, and you can swap it out for a puzzle that’s new to you,” Berkemeier said.
The library also hosts chocolate making on Monday (Jan. 26) with Candy Lane Creations and More. “It’s going to be a hands-on activity along with some history about the history of chocolate,” Berkemeier said, adding there will be “2 times for that program, an afternoon and an evening.”
For kids, a new chess club begins this Wednesday (Jan. 28). “A chess club is starting at the library, January 28th, grades 1st through 6th grade,” Berkemeier said.
Families can also take part in a guided walk through the library’s new Volksmarch initiative, with the January walk scheduled for this Tuesday (Jan. 27) in Oldenburg.
“The walk focuses on scenic or historical areas,” Berkemeier said. “It’s always going to be the last Tuesday of the month.”
More information — including registration details — is available through the library’s online events calendar.
