Local students make education career commitment, qualify for scholarship

Batesville, In. — In 2016 the Indiana General Assembly created the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, recognizing the important role educators have.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education recently named 200 students as award winners.

Recipients will receive $7,500 annually for committing to teach in Indiana for at least five years after graduating college.

To qualify for the scholarship, students had to graduate in the highest 20% of their high school class or score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT.

Among the 393 students who applied, more than 80% were Indiana high school seniors, with the remainder comprised of current college students.

Students who received a scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year are listed here.
