Indianapolis, In.— The Indiana Department of Education awarded Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception and North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School for student success on AP exams for the 2016-2017 school year, according to State Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville).
During the 2018 Indiana AP Recognition Ceremony, the DOE and College Board recognized more than 70 schools for having 25 percent or more of their graduating class earn a score of 3 out of 5 or higher on at least one AP exam.
“College-level classes are more rigorous than traditional high school coursework, and AP courses help college-bound students prepare for that change,” Ziemke said. “These courses challenge high school students academically and set them apart from others when applying to colleges. Our community is fortunate to not only have these courses available to our students, but also educators who are able to help them excel and give them the tools they need to succeed.”
Ziemke said high school students take AP exams after they complete courses designed to demonstrate they are prepared to handle college-level work. With a successful AP exam score, a student can usually earn college credit. AP exams are developed by the College Board, a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization that connects students to success and opportunity in higher education.
