(Versailles, IN) – The Versailles American Legion Post has recognized Co-Firefighters of the Year.

Gary Thomas and Brian Thomas with the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department were honored recently for their efforts in saving the life of a three-year-old boy who nearly drowned at an address on County Road 900 South back in October.

After they resuscitated the child, he was taken by ambulance to the Friendship fire station and flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

After a week in the hospital, the boy made a full recovery.

Gary Thomas is a 36-year fire service veteran and serves as president of the organization.

Brian Thomas is the secretary and has eight years of service under his belt.
