Leslie D. Washnock, age 68, of Brookville, Indiana died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Les was born June 3, 1948 in North Bend, Ohio, the son of the late George & Alma (McGuire); however when his birth certificate was filed it listed his date of birth as June 13, so he proudly celebrated two birthday’s every year!
On March 13, 1971 he and the former Lee Wanda Stenger were united in marriage and she survives. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a Quilt of Valor receipient.
Les retired in 2011 as Assistant Chief of Police for the Town of Brookville, where he had served 28 ½ year on the force. He was also a professional musician having been the drummer for the band Don Boone & the Indians. He had also worked on the Brookville Lake Flood Control Project during the building of the spillway for the dam.
He was a member of the Brookville Road Baptist Church; the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, Wilbur Dennison Post #2014 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brookville; and the Harmony Masonic Lodge #11 F. & A.M. of Brookville.
Besides Lee Wanda, his loving wife of nearly 46 years, survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Juanita (Martin) McClure of Brookville, Indiana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie K. (Dusti) Washnock of Pond Creek, Oklahoma, Jeremy (Laura) Washnock of Batesville, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild on the way; three sisters, Ruth Boone of Brookville, Indiana, Jeannie Griffin of Dillsboro, Indiana and Pam Conley of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; three brothers, Ralph Washnock of Lake City, Florida, Gary Washnock of West Chester, Ohio, and Colin Washnock of Florence, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Gillespie; and three brothers, Wally Washnock, Larry Washnock, and Vernon Washnock.
Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
His Son, Rev. Leslie K. Washnock, will officiate the Funeral Services at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
