Indianapolis, In. —A bill sponsored by Republican state senator from Oldenburg Jean Leising that would help eliminate harmful plants in Indiana has passed the Senate unanimously.
House Enrolled Act 1492 would add common waterhemp, tall waterhemp, marestail, palmer amaranth, poison hemlock, powell amaranth, rough pigweed and smooth pigweed to the list of detrimental plants, which, by state law, must be destroyed by certain people.
“These plants have the potential to harm Indiana crops and natural habitats,” Leising said. “By including these in the list of detrimental plants, this bill would help ensure they are eliminated from our state.”
HEA 1492 will now be considered by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
