Indianapolis, IN—State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg, podium) offers remarks to the Senate Chamber on Indiana’s 100th anniversary of ratifying the 19th Amendment Thursday, Jan. 16.
“In 1859, more than 1,000 Indiana residents signed a petition that urged the legislature to pass measures that would grant women the right to vote,” Leising said. “The effort to grant women the right to vote began in Dublin in Henry County. While the 19th Amendment wasn’t adopted until 1920, men and women jointed together in pursuit of a movement that redefined our state and our nation. I was honored to speak on House Concurrent Resolution 8 and will continue to advocate for policies that improve equal political rights for all.”
