(Statehouse) – The second half of the 2025 legislative session begins Monday. Essentially, that means the Indiana House will now consider legislation passed by the Senate and the Senate will review legislation passed by the House.
689 bills were filed. 179 passed out of the house on the third reading. When a bill is passed in the House, a Senator will sponsor and guide it through the senate chamber. The same process applies for bills moving from the Senate to the House.
“We worked on a lot of important legislation this first half of session. House Republicans authored and passed bills to protect taxpayers, strengthen our communities, and further empower Hoosiers across the state. Legislation we passed in the House will go to the Senate now for discussion and we will consider bills the Senate passed,” said State Representative Matt Lehman of Berne.
House Republicans passed bills that call for a balanced budget, reduced regulations on schools, boosted public safety, addressed housing needs, modernized the energy grid, and tackled health care costs.
State Representative Julie McGuire of Indianapolis, Vice Chair of the House Public Health Committee, co-authored House Bill 1004. It focuses on boosting transparency and dealing with high healthcare costs at nonprofit hospitals.
“House Bill 1004 ensures our nonprofit hospitals are acting like nonprofits, focused on delivering high quality, affordable care to Hoosiers. This bill takes important accountability steps to ensure fair, transparent pricing for Hoosiers,” said McGuire.
The 2025 legislative session must conclude by April 29.
