Laurel Elementary School Staying Open

(Laurel, IN) – The doors of Laurel Elementary School will remain open.

The Franklin County Community School Board voted 5-2 to continue operating the school.

The corporation has been considering permanent school closings for the past three years after examining several factors, such as usage and costs to maintaining current buildings.

A study conducted by Lancer and Beebe LLC in 2022 indicated the district would save $800-thousand a year by shuttering Laurel Elementary School.

That study also showed closing both Laurel and Mt. Carmel elementaries would save $1.5 million annually.
