When Coach Adams took over the program this summer, she had one goal in mind to prepare for this game against East Central: Match them step for step for 80 straight minutes. Fitness was the #1 priority for the squad over the summer. Team defending was the second priority. Both of these goals were in evidence tonight. EC won 3-0.
Franklin County didn’t give up the first goal until late in the first half. It came from an East Central corner kick and bounced around finally was knocked in.
The team defending was superb anchored by Kylee Gibson playing in the sweeper position. Other defenders such as Jaime Stortz, Laura Edwards, Adrienne and Claudia Mauntel played exceptionally well as did the Franklin midfielders.
But the real story was the incredible goal keeping by Senior Shelby Pearson. Shelby converted from a hugely successful defender to be the primary goal keeper this year. Shelby had 18 saves. She is by far the reason Franklin County was able to keep the game within striking distance giving up the final goal in final four minutes of the game.
