Lady Wildcats Soccer plays well defensively against Knights

South Dearborn may not have had much time to warm up, but took very little time to score in Tuesday’s girls soccer match at Franklin County.  The Knights won 2-0.

“After getting off the bus with limited warmup time, the girls got right at it with Hailey Huber scoring the first goal just 34 seconds into the match,” said SD coach Jonathan Wismann.  “Then 25 minutes later, Marissa Womble sent a through ball for Bernadette Wismann to finish, and the Knights took home a 2-0 victory.”

SD keepers Taytum Barker and Natalie Rupp along with defender Brooklyn Ward all had saves in the shutout.

“The Lady Wildcats played a tough game against conference rival South Dearborn and came up a bit short,” said Franklin County coach Cindy Adams.  “Our team defending started a touch slow, but once they settled in, it was an evenly matched game across the pitch from end to end. The Wildcats were tenacious, fast and efficient playing with integrity and grit.”

Shots taken by Franklin County included: Jordan Nichols with two and one each by Halee Barker, Erica Weaver and Madesyn Sunderhous.

“The defensive back line was tough led by co-captains Claudia Mauntel and Maddie Merritt,” added Adams. “Merritt was named our Player of the Match.  The defensive rookies of Paige Ashcraft, Audrey Weaver and Mackenzie Brzezinksi were solid, tough and flexed some good 1-v-1 and team defending skills.  Maegan Pearson had 14 saves with another 11 balls she scooped within the box. The junior goalkeeper had her third double digit save match this season.”

We thank coaches Wismann and Adams for the information.
