Pitching dominated the game Friday night, but Franklin County was able to get just enough run support to defeat Knightstown 3-1. With the win the Wildcats run their record to 10-3 on the year as the Panthers record fell to 6-5.
After throwing a no-hitter in her previous outing, Kamryn McCool was dominant again in the circle. She allowed just one hit to Knightstown in seven innings of work. McCool gave up one unearned run on one hit, two walks, and thirteen strikeouts. McCool’s record on the season is now 6-1 on the year.
C Carlton took the loss for Knightstown. She surrendered three runs on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out one.
Franklin County did their damage on the scoreboard in the third inning. A lead off single by Tessa Harper got the inning started for the Wildcats. Then a sacrifice bunt by Izzy Hoff moved the runner into scoring position. Next, back to back Knightstown errors allowed Harper to score from second, and set up the Wildcats with runners on second and third with one out. Kamryn McCool made Knightstown pay for their mistakes by driving a 1-1 pitch into deep left field for a double and driving in two more runs for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats only had four hits for the game. McCool went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Wildcats in hits, while Tessa Harper and Maggie Wendel each added a single of their own.
Franklin County will be back in action on Tuesday night as the Wildcats travel to Batesville for an EIAC matchup with the Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
An early lead helped Franklin County defeat Knightstown 11-5 on Friday. The Wildcats were able to take the lead in the first inning and never looked back. With the victory, the Wildcats were able to end their losing and improve their record to 3-6 on the season.
The Wildcats JV started the offense in the first inning when Laura Hildebrand and Sarah Bare scored on a single by Morgan Bare. Morgan later scored on a double by Emily Wendel to make the score 3-1 after the first.
Franklin County added four more runs in the second inning. Laura Hildebrand, Wendel, and Kaylynn Rauch all drove in runs in the frame.
Sarah Bare was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats JV. She lasted four innings, allowing six hits and five runs, three earned while striking out two. Karlie Hahn finished off the game for Franklin County throwing an inning of relief out of the bullpen. Hahn struck out the side in the top of the fifth to finish off the Panthers.
Mattie took the loss for Knightstown. She went three innings, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and striking out two.
Franklin County Wildcats tallied 12 hits on the game. Abby Orschell, Bare, Wendel, Bare, and Hahn each collected two hits to lead the Wildcats.
Franklin County’s JV will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Batesville to take on the Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled to follow the conclusion of the varsity contest.
