No local soccer program, boys or girls, made a deeper run into the 2021 state tournament than the East Central Lady Trojans.  Unfortunately, the ride ended at Saturday’s 3A regional championship to host Carmel.  The fourth ranked Greyhounds beat the 18th ranked Trojans 1-0.

The game’s only goal was scored in the second half by Carmel’s Megan Hamm off an assist from Lauren Bailey.

Carmel edged EC in shots on goal 4-3.  The Trojans, under coach Bill Volker, end a great season with a 16-3-1 record, a 20th sectional title and an undefeated EIAC championship.

On Wednesday, the East Central girls soccer team picked up a nice regional semifinal victory over Roncalli 4-0.  The match was played at Center Grove Elementary.

EC got the scoring underway at the midpoint of the first half by Ashtyn Gindling. Olivia Hopper and Erika Wells added two more netters to put the St. Leon ladies up 3-nil at intermission.

Ten minutes into the second half, Kendal Fox added one more goal to close out the scoring. The Trojan defense held the Lady Royals to just 3 shots on goal.
