The Lady Pirates were crowned the 2024 State Runner-Up Champions at the Indiana Middle School Cross Country State Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute. The Greensburg Junior High Girls placed 2nd out of 46 complete Small School teams with 170 points on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. Morgan Township Lady Cherokees won the event with 135 points. The Lady Pirates concluded a remarkable season with 172 total wins and only 1 loss. This is the most season wins by any team in Greensburg Junior High School History. The Greensburg Girls dominated the 7 Invitationals they competed in including the Lou Knoble Invite, Greensburg Invite, Waldron Invite, Rick Weinheimer Invite, Jennings County Invite, Brown County Invite, Columbus Central Invite as well as the Decatur County Championship, and the EIAC Championship Meet.
At the State Meet, the Lady Pirates were led by Indiana All-State Medalist, Eleanor Davis, as she placed 15th out of 411 total runners. This is the second time the eighth grader has earned a medalist position at the State Championships. Joining Davis on the awards podium was All-State Medalist, Maria Scholle, in 25th place. Other great performances came from Lulu Webb in 39th, Madeline Risher in 42nd, Hadley Davis 109th, Kate McNulty 282nd, and Annalise Keller 373rd. Sixth Grader, Hadley Davis, set a new career PR on the State Meet course. Noelle Kern also set a new career PR and broke the 16-minute barrier for the first time earning 142nd place during the JV race.

The Greensburg Boys also competed in the State Championship meet. The Pirates placed 45th overall out of 56 complete teams. Eighth grader, Jackson Tekulve, led the Pirates with a 120th-place finish out of 454 total boys. Sixth Grader, Jack Gindling, was 193rd, Oliver Corya 289th, Kason Bedel 335th, Liam Hernandez 414th, Luke Harris 425th, and Miles Gill 438th. Prior to the State Meet, the boys’ team finished their regular season with 74 wins and 51 losses.
