Lady Cardinals Split Games With Lady Wildkats

The St. Louis Schools 5th Grade team opened the season on Wednesday, January 22 defeating the St. Mary’s (North Vernon) Wildkats 41 to 5. The Cardinals jumped out to a big lead early with a stout defense and was able to hold the Wildkats scoreless at halftime with a 19 – 0 score. The Cardinals put the game away in the 3rd quarter by going on a 16 – 0 before finally giving up their first points off a free throw. The Cardinals were lead in scoring by Ella King with 14 points and Madden Showalter with 10. Belle Young added 7 points and Mimi Smith contributed 6 points. The 5th grade next game is Thursday, January 23 when they travel to Brookville to play St. Michael’s Schools.

The St. Louis 6th Grade Girls Basketball team traveled to St. Mary’s North Vernon to face the Wildkats for a second time. The Cardinals showed major improvements on their defensive game and held the Wildkats to 26 points. Unfortunately, the girls had a hard time getting points on the board. The Cardinals lost 26-10. Jaelyn Owens scored the only 2 points in the first half of the game, getting us on the board. Rachel Suttmann led in scoring with 6 points and Karsyn Watson added the other 2 points for the night. Bridget Lohmueller set the tone for some great defense and Meg Ritter did an excellent job rebounding. Katelyn Rahe, Paige Watters, and Cora Roth helped round out our defensive game. The Cardinals move to 1-2 on the season.
