It was a nice and needed win for the Batesville varsity girls basketball team. After coming off a less than stellar showing at Franklin County, the Bulldogs beat rival Greensburg 55-37 at the Dog Pound.
The victory by Batesville ended a 12-game losing streak to Greensburg dating back to 2015.
BHS was sparked by five points in the final five seconds of the first quarter to give the hosts a 13-6 lead. The spread was as many as a dozen late in the second quarter as the half eventually closed out at 30-20 in favor of the Bulldogs.
During the first 16 minutes, Bre Wells seven points and six from Alyson Peters led the home troops. Leah West dropped in 12 to headline the Pirates scoring.
Batesville made 14 of 23 shots in the first half against the Pirates. That’s compared to making just five the entire game against the Wildcats.
The BHS lead was 48-29 early in the fourth. Greensburg rattled off eight unanswered points to get within 11 but drew no closer. Batesville put more points back on the board to win by 18.
Alyson Peters’ 14 points and eight rebounds were both tops for the Dogs. Carley Pride followed with 11 points and Bre Wells scored eight.
The Bucs saw Leah West lead all scorers with 16 points while Mylie Wilkison followed with 15.
Batesville shot 23 of 44 from the field. Greensburg was 11 of 42. The Bulldogs also doubled up the Pirates on the glass 36-18.
