The JV Lady Bulldogs lost their first home game of the season last night 14-10 in a back and forth battle with the visiting Lady Pirates. Greensburg struck first by putting 2 on the board in the second inning but the Bulldogs were able to push across 5 runs of their own to put them in front early. The Lady Pirates came back in the third and posted 2 more while the Bulldogs were able to post 1 in the inning and 1 more in the fourth. The Lady Pirates scored another run in the fifth inning off of a deep triple by Greensburg’s Jones. Greensburg struck again with a big inning in the.sixth as they sent 10 batters to the plate while pushing across 6 runs. The Bulldogs responded with 2 in their half of the sixth inning to make it a 11-9 after six innings. Greensburg, however, was able to tack on 3 more in the seventh and the Bulldogs only managed to score 1 in their half to end the game at 14-10.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to pound out 15 hits on the evening. Morgan Biggs and Molly Weiler led the Bulldogs with 3 hits a piece while Gabby Elston and Ainsley Phipps each chipped in with 2 a piece. Chloe Saler, Gwen Martin, Sarah Ripperger, Sophie Lee, and Courtney Chambers all finished with a hit as well. Eight different Bulldogs scored runs in the game to even out the offensive attack.
Morgan Biggs got the start on the mound and pitched an excellent game striking out 12 Lady Pirates while surrendering 7 hits.
Batesville JV Softball will next be in action Monday evening as they travel to St. Leon to take on the East Central Trojans. First pitch will be immediately following the varsity game.
