Julia Ann (Judy) Schreiner, 81, passed away April 2, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born April 27, 1938 in Batesville, IN to the late Francis (Nixie) and Hildreth Biltz. She graduated from Brookville High School in 1956 while helping her parents and honing her early ironing skills in their Main Street business, Nixie’s Pool Hall & Laundromat.
On May 17, 1958 she married James Schreiner at St. Michael church in Brookville. For many years she was a mother, homemaker, and a treasured Aunt to her eleven Gramman nieces and nephews. She was a member of community organizations Delta Theta Tau and the Lions Club, where she was also served as President. In the mid 1980’s, with husband Jim, she purchased the Ye Olde Shack restaurant which was her passion for over 20 years. She made many friends that included longstanding employees and loyal customers, creating countless memories shared amongst all those in Brookville. In her free time she loved to play cards and Yahtzee, and every month for over 60 years, she looked forward to card club with her closest lady friends. She was thrilled to still be able to join them occasionally despite living the past three years at Bridgeway Pointe Assisted Living in Cincinnati.
Judy is survived by her three daughters, Jackie (John) Hausfeld, Joni (Bill) Buechler and Jill (Daniel) Coppersmith and grandchildren Katelyn Hausfeld (Mike Dance), Gabrielle Hausfeld, Katie (Trevor) Self, Chelsea (Kevin) Hart, Jack Buechler, and Megan, Julia, and Mason Coppersmith. She was also proud great-grandmother to Hudson Self, Ainsley Self, and Evelyn Dance. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, her brother Marvin, and her loving in-laws, Donald and Betty Gramman and Sister Mary Virginia (Aunt Jane) Schreiner.
Visitation and service for the immediate family will be held at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home Wednesday, April 8th. A celebration of life will be planned later in the year where we will eat her favorite foods, play Euchre and Yahtzee, and listen to her favorite music from Celine Dion, Elton John, and Billy Joel. Until then, please have a Nixie burger, play some cards, and raise a glass to celebrate Judy’s memory.
