Joyce A. Meyer

Joyce Alene Meyer, age 75, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Batesville, IN.  Joyce was born November 4, 1948, in Milan, Indiana, the youngest daughter of Owen and Anna (Nee: Bushhorn) Cross.  She was married on October 5, 1968, to Richard “Dick” Meyer at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg, IN.  Their 55 years of marriage would carry her to New Hampshire, Mississippi, Mexico, and finally back to their forever home in Indiana.

Professionally, her 15-year career as a realtor was a successful one.  Her many years spent showing and selling homes nurtured her love of antiques and provided her time to practice one of her favorite hobbies, storytelling.  Joyce was a natural storyteller, allowing her to effortlessly charm and connect with everyone she met.  Joyce excelled in her award-winning career but found that her favorite role was that of a devoted wife and mother.  The years spent growing her family and supporting her loving husband, never settling for less than a home cooked meal and pristine home, was the true joy of her life.

Joyce wanted as much time together with her family as the brisk pace of life would allow, time best spent around the dinner table, enjoying the sights while on a family vacation, or cheering during a football game.  Her three children will remember her as the original “fun Mom”, with their home being a place school friends always felt welcome, if they could keep up with her wicked sense of humor and the occasional Halloween prank.  Her love and support for her children carried on to each of her grandchildren, who she loved and adored beyond measure.

She is survived by her husband Dick Meyer, sons Jamison (Brittany) Meyer and Bradley Meyer of Batesville, daughter Abigail (Kristopher) Suddath of Batesville, and brother David (Mary Chris) Cross of Milan. Grandchildren Olivia, Kennedy, Tucker, Asher, Kenlie, Meyer, and Evelyn. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters Delores Benham, Joann Cole, Janet Curry, and brother Earl Cross.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28th from 4 – 7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg.  Father Carl Langenderfer OFM will be officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
