All our local girls’ softball squads have now fallen out of Indiana’s high school tournaments, but there are still a couple boys’ baseball teams from the area on the diamonds.

The 19 & 9 Batesville Bulldogs will take on the 23 & 8 Dragons of Silver Creek, Saturday morning at 11:00, at neutral Floyd Central High.  Somebody will have to win, but each team’s 4 & 0 on neutral fields so far this season.  Saturday afternoon, it’ll be South Decatur’s 16 & 5 Cougars against the 16 & 15 Saints of Indianapolis Lutheran.  Remember you’ll be able to hear the Silver Creek-Batesville game live, at 10:45 Saturday morning, on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.

The Reds dropped to 24 & 32 on their Major League Baseball season Wednesday, when they lost 5-3 to the Cardinals. Today Cincinnati’s not playing, because the team’s on the way to Chicago to start tomorrow’s series against the Cubs.  You’ll be able to hear Game 1 with us, Friday afternoon at 1:50 on 103.9 WRBI.

The Reds also say they’ve given their Viking helmet and cape their “unconditional release” as a method of celebrating home runs.  Catcher Luke Maile says they’ll always be around as a memory for the 2023 team.  He and Spencer Steer reportedly called for a new celebration for this year, and it now seems a bit secret among the players, as they’ve started getting out of the dugout, and running into the clubhouse tunnel, to privately cheer a home run hitter.

Prosecutors in Kentucky have now dismissed criminal charges against the world’s leading men’s golfer, Scottie Scheffler.  That comes just under 2 weeks since Scheffler was arrested, outside the course where this year’s PGA Championship was being played.  He got charged with assaulting an officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and more.  Scheffler had been trying to get around the early-morning scene where a bus had killed a pedestrian, when an officer claimed he’d refused to comply with instructions.  Police also claimed Scheffler had hit an officer with a car, dragging him a short distance.  In a procedural violation, the arresting detective didn’t have his body camera switched on at the time.

Stewart-Haas Racing, a 2-time NASCAR championship team with 69 Cup wins since it started in 2009, says it’s closing down at the end of the current race season.  Co-owners Tony Stewart, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, and Gene Haas, told employees Tuesday.  The team’s last Cup Series win came 2 years ago.
