Wednesday afternoon, you heard the Reds lose to the Cardinals, the final 5-3.  That gives Cincinnati a 24 & 32 record on the Major League Baseball season, and they also lose the series with the Cards, 1 game to 2.  No Reds action Thursday, as they head a bit northwest to start a new series with the Cubs.  That first game broadcast will come to you from Chicago at 1:50 Friday afternoon, on the Sports Voice, 103.9, WRBI.

A lot of local athletes have been competing in the diamond sports this spring–  and regional high school softball tournament action Tuesday saw the end of the season for the last pair of our local girls’ teams that had been playing.

In Class 1A, North Decatur got shut out by Indianapolis Lutheran, 18-0. The Saints move on to face Rising Sun Friday, while the Chargers season concludes, but still on the positive side, with 11 wins against 10 losses.

Also in Tuesday’s regional play, two teams of Trojan women squared off, as Center Grove and East Central met with that same nickname in a Class 4A softball game.  East Central grabbed an early 1-0 lead, holding it until the 6th inning. That’s when Center Grove scored 3 runs to move ahead. They then managed to hold off East Central, eventually taking that tough win, 3-1. That ends a fine East Central season with 19 wins, only 10 losses.  Center Grove moves on, going into this weekend’s semi-state play, with a mark of 24 & 6.

Regional baseball is now set for Saturday.  At 11:00 that morning In Class 3A, it’ll be the 19 & 9 sectional champion Batesville Bulldogs, up against the 23 & 8 Dragons from Silver Creek. That game will be played at Floyd Central High, and so far this season each team is an unbeaten 4 & 0 on neutral fields. Should be a great one, and you’ll hear the action live, the broadcast beginning at 10:45 Saturday morning, again on 103.9 WRBI.

After winning their Class 1A sectional championship, South Decatur’s Cougar baseball squad has no time to celebrate either. They’re also moving on, carrying a 16 & 5 record into a 1:00 Saturday regional matchup in Morristown, with the 16 & 15 Saints of Indianapolis Lutheran.

Stewart-Haas Racing, a two-time NASCAR championship team with 69 Cup Series victories since it started in 2009, says it’s shutting down at the end of the current race season. Co-owners Tony Stewart, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, and Gene Haas, announced their decision to employees Tuesday.
