Now post-Memorial Day, our post-season coverage of the high school diamond sports ramps back up, with action in both softball and baseball.

A few games needed to be played on the holiday to get them in, schedule-wise.  They included some final sectional baseball paving the way to regionals, with South Decatur topping Southwestern Shelby 4-1, Batesville taking down Greensburg 6-2, and the other Southwestern High, the Rebels from Hanover, knocking out Milan 8-4.

Following sectionals last week and over the weekend, regional softball starts tonight with Class 1A action, 11 & 9 North Decatur taking on 17 & 9 Indianapolis Lutheran at 6:00.  You can hear that one live on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI, beginning at 5:45.

At the same time in 4A this evening, it’ll be the East Central Trojans with their 19 & 9 softball record, facing Center Grove’s Trojans, and their 23 & 6 mark.

All the regional baseball contests are expected to begin Saturday, June 1st.  Games involving local athletes will feature 16 & 5 South Decatur against 16 & 15 Indianapolis Lutheran, and 19 & 9 Batesville taking on 23 & 8 Silver Creek.

Yes, the Reds have still been busy while we’ve been spotlighting the local high schoolers the last week-plus.  Cincinnati swept a 3-game home series from the Dodgers Friday thru Sunday.  A new series against the Cardinals opened with a 3-1 Reds win last night.  They’ll hope to continue that trend while you hear those local softballers tonight– Andrew Abbott starting for the Reds, Kyle Gibson for St. Louis.  Catch the Reds live tomorrow afternoon as the Cards look to get out of Cincy, beginning at 12:40, only on 103.9 WRBI.

Professional basketball’s done ‘til the fall around here.  The Pacers finished getting swept out of the NBA playoffs by the Celtics Sunday.  The final, final score was 105-102.  Boston goes on to the NBA Finals as the overall Number 1 seed, and will take on the winners of the Mavericks/Timberwolves series that could end in another sweep tonight, Dallas leading that one 3 games to none.
