Hope you’re enjoying the Reds/Brewers game right now… and there’s more action tomorrow night, with Cincinnati facing the Cubs. That broadcast comes your way beginning at 7:50 Thursday evening, on the Sports Voice WRBI, 103.9 FM.

Earning honorable mentions- Carlee Adams of Greensburg; Kaylin Hinners and Reagan Hughes from Jac-Cen-Del; Riley Lagaly of South Dearborn; Claire Saner from Batesville; Brayley Sundal of South Decatur, and Oldenburg Academy’s Sadie Wachsmann.
On the Academic All-State boys’ first team is East Central’s Dylan Maxwell. Earning honorable mentions– Jack Grunkemeyer and Sam Johnson of Batesville, and Jac-Cen-Del’s Carson Hughes. Congratulations to all our local Academic All-Staters!
The stars of tomorrow have had a lot going on lately. In middle school wrestling, Batesville finished 5th in their version of the EIAC tournament last weekend. Carson Weiler, Isaac Enneking, and Edwin Hernandez won individual championships. Paul Brewer and Mason Dance were each 2nd in their weight classes. 3rd places went to Huston Cook, Max Meyer, Ajon Herbert, Bronson Winsted, and Drake Glaub, and grabbing 4ths were Chucky Kline, Ryan Ollier and Parker Smith. A 5th-place award went to Gavin Britch.
There’s been plenty of middle-school swimming action, too— South Ripley Junior High going to a recent triangular meet against Madison and Jennings County. The South Ripley boys beat Madison in that one.
The Milan Aquatics Club says it recently had 20 athletes go to a meet at Center Grove against several bigger communities. Some highlights for the Milan club included Batesville student Ross Lieland in the 10 and under age bracket winning the hundred-yard freestyle in just a minute and 8.4 seconds… Ross was also first in the 50 yard freestyle sprint, and 2nd in the 200 individual medley and 50 butterfly, and 3rd in the 100 fly. For the girls, 12 & under, Kami Laws was in the top 10 in both the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke races, and Taylor Stock ran 2nd in the girls 12 & under 50 backstroke, 4th at a hundred yards.
How about some excellent men’s college basketball Tuesday night? There was strong big-name action, as the nation’s number 3 squad, the Boilermakers of Purdue, took a big Big 10 game, 77-71, from the 12th-ranked Fighting Illini. Also, UC’s Bearcats visited Norman, putting a scare into the Sooners. Cincinnati almost pulled the upset, narrowly losing to Oklahoma, 74-71. And in Muncie, the 2 combatants ended up even, each with 15 & 15 records on the season, as Ball State’s Cards topped the Golden Flashes of Kent State, the final 76-69.
Coming up tonight, Wednesday, the Number 8 & 9 teams in the Big East hook up, as the Xavier Musketeers visit Butler’s Bulldogs, and there’s another Big 10 matchup too, with the Hoosiers visiting the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis. How about those Indiana State Sycamores, who were in the top 25 for a week this season? They finished their regular campaign with a 26 & 5 record Sunday night, topping Murray State’s Racers, 89-77. So Friday, the Trees open the Missouri Valley Conference tournament as the league’s Number 1 seed, taking on the winner of the Murray State/Missouri State game.
Remember that huge boys’ high school hoops post-season, that continues with regional action this weekend. In Seymour, it’ll be Batesville against Scottsburg in Class 3A. And in 1A, Oldenburg Academy takes on Greenwood Christian at Martinsville. Both games tip at 4:00, but that’s not an issue here. You’ll get all the excitement from us, with the 2 games on WRBIRadio.com and the new WRBI app, with an even newer second stream, WRBI2, allowing us to bring you the play-by-play of both at the same time, letting you easily toggle between them. And the Batesville game will be on the radio as well, at 103.9 FM.
And last night in the NBA, the Pacers burned past the Mavericks— Myles Turner scoring 20 points all in the first half, Tyrese Haliburton with 19 and 11 assists for the game, Indiana winning in Dallas, 137-120. Tomorrow night the Pacers are back home, hosting the Timberwolves at Gainbridge.
