It’s one of Indiana’s later sets of sectional high school contests for the academic year- in boys’ golf.  From rounds played Friday and Monday, the top 3 teams posting a score advance to regional competition.  In sectional 28, where most of our schools play, the 3 lowest team scores were tallied by Columbus North with 304 strokes, Columbus East shooting a 318, and Shelbyville at 327.  Batesville and North Decatur got closest to them at 330 and 331, respectively.  The good news is that individually, low scores can also move you ahead, without your entire team.  So congrats to Owen Eldridge, who shot a 77, and Jack Koehne a 79 for North Decatur, and East Central’s Ethan Moorman, who fired a 78.  In Sectional 27, Franklin County finished 6th and Oldenburg Academy 8th, and in Sectional 29, South Dearborn ended its boys’ golf season in 11th place.  Best of luck to those top teams and scoring individuals, who get to keep playing.

At the state high school girls track meet, Callie Bentley of East Central finished 8th in the 1600 meters, fellow Trojan Jorjia Ferguson was 7th in the 100-meter hurdles, and the 2 of them joined teammates Anna Graf and Lauren Huber to place 7th in the girls’ 4 x 400 meter relay in just a shade under 4 minutes.  Batesville’s girls, Kaylie Raver, Baileigh Demaree, Kaylynn Bedel and Megan Allgeier, ran 10th in the 4 x 800 relay, and Bulldog freshman Ella King placed 21st in her first state meet, throwing the shotput 39’5 ¾”.  Greensburg’s Emarie Jackson was 3rd in the girls’ discus, at 149′ 9″.  Boys’ results had East Central’s 4 x 400 relay run 18th at 3:23.5- Trevor Perkins, Dylan Maxwell, Gavin Hicks, and Chase Bellman running.  And Batesville’s Ayden Eckstein couldn’t clear 6’7″ in the high jump, but his 6’6″ was still good enough for a medal.

In Major League Baseball, wow did the Reds put on a show out in Colorado last night!  Cincinnati really belted the Rockies at Coors Field, 13-3.  The Reds have now won 7 of their last 10 games.  The series continues tonight, the broadcast coming your way starting at 8:10, only on the Sports Voice, 103.9, WRBI.

Yet another honor is on the way to the Indiana Fever’s WNBA star Caitlin Clark.  The league’s announced she’ll soon be named WNBA Rookie of The Month. Clark’s averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 assists per game in the first month of her professional career, leading all other first-year players.  Clark’s only the 2nd player in league history to score at least 150 points, pull down 50 rebounds, and dish off 50 assists in her first 10 games combined.

And we’ll keep this bonus up for you for a couple days, in case you missed it… it was sent to us at the end of last week by some good Batesville High sports parents.  There was a special ceremony for BHS last week, and here’s how it went…

The second annual D.A.W.G. Awards were a success!  Wednesday night, May 29, we celebrated the successes of our student-athletes and community members.
Terrance Arney was the host for the show while members of the BHS student-athlete leadership team presented the awards.

Congratulations to all the winners!
