And as much fun as we have with high school sports, sometimes events bring us a bit of perspective on life versus games… As some of you heard last night on WRBI, a medical emergency cropped up in the stands during the second half of the boys’ basketball game between East Central and South Dearborn. The game was suspended, and on-scene medical personnel quickly responded to the person in distress. Our crew who were there for the contest report some good news, that the person who fell ill appeared to be conscious and talking while being carried out on a stretcher. The margin between the teams was reportedly around 13 points or so, with about 6 minutes left on the game clock. It wasn’t immediately made clear whether the athletes will get together to finish the contest, or if the game will be called complete where it ended. We’ll let you know more, as soon as we can learn what school officials plan to do.
That had been the only boys’ game on our WRBI schedule last night… and there was only one played by the girls we cover as well. In that contest, Oldenburg Academy defeated Purdue Poly Englewood, 59 to 45.
All that said, we do have more high school hoops contests to bring you, and that effort picks up again tonight. None of the boys’ teams we cover will be in action, but there are several girls’ games on the schedule. Franklin County is at Shenandoah, North Decatur visits Milan, Rising Sun will be at Jac-Cen-Del, Southwestern Hanover at South Ripley, and the game we’ll be broadcasting– the Rushville girls visiting Batesville. We’ll be there with a special guest color analyst I think you’ll enjoy, and I invite you to join us for live coverage beginning around 7:15 this evening, tipoff 7:30.
In the NBA tonight, the Pacers will be way out west for a late one– their game against the Kings in Sacramento not tipping off until 10:00 eastern time.
And another reminder– it’ll be football and farming on the agenda at next month’s Ag Day Breakfast, February 24th in Greensburg. The guest speaker will be the former pro footballer who’s now a farmer, the Colts’ Hunter The Punter, Hunter Smith!! Tickets are going quickly at only 20 dollars each, and so are special passes for you to meet Hunter– also just 20 bucks. Pick ‘em both up today at greensburgchamber.com, slash events. It’ll be a ton of fun, and we look forward to seeing you there!!
