James L. Bedel, 75, of Greensburg passed away on February 12, 2023, at his home. He was born on October, 10, 1947 in Greensburg, the son of Leonard T. and Loretta C. Schoettmer Bedel. James was a 1965 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. He was in the United States Army Reserves from 1966 to 1972. On September 16, 1972 he married Donna J. Schwering. James worked for 35 years as the custodian at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Church and Cemetery and then 10 years in maintenance at Sisters of St. Francis, retiring in 2011. He enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards, Sudoku and spending time with family. James was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include: Wife, Donna Bedel of Greensburg; Sons, Matt (Lisa) Bedel of Laurel, Mark (Tina) Bedel of Greensburg, and Tom Bedel of Greensburg; Grandchildren, Jamie, Nicole, Makayla, Jade and Hannah; Great Grandchildren, Kiera, Miya, Oaklynn and Kinley. He was preceded in death by his Parents and In Laws, Wilbur and Martha Schwering; and Daughter, Julie Bedel.
Rosary will be prayed Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home at 2:30 pm. Visitation will follow from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 17, 2023 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Father John Meyer will be officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
