(Statewide) – Indiana State Police are out with the results of a week-long human trafficking awareness sweep on Hoosier highways.
Between January 12 and 16, the agency partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance for the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative.
Troopers inspected 718 commercial vehicles and distributed more than a thousand training materials such as wallet cards, decals, and other brochures to truck drivers.
Officials say the initiative is vital because 40 percent of trafficking cases identified by drivers involve children.
State Police are urging the public to watch for “red flags” such as people who aren’t allowed to speak for themselves, or lack identification.
To report information about a potential trafficking situation, please call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) at 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733.
NHTRC is a national, toll-free hotline, with specialists available to answer calls from anywhere in the country, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can also submit a tip on the NHTRC website.
