(Statewide) – The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) for the CVSA Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative, which took place from January 13 – 17.

The goal of the initiative is to empower commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officials, and the general public with crucial knowledge about human trafficking, including how to recognize its signs and what actions to take if they suspect someone is being trafficked.

During the initiative, ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement units discussed the human trafficking problem with and distributed 1,481 wallet cards and other brochures from TAT (formerly Truckers Against Trafficking) to drivers of the 696 commercial motor vehicles they inspected.

In addition, the initiative included 10 outreach events to amplify awareness.

“Commercial motor vehicle drivers serve as the eyes and ears of America, often working in locations where human trafficking may occur, such as truck stop parking lots, rest areas, or commercial facilities that could potentially exploit labor trafficking victims,” ISP wrote in a statement.
