Indianapolis, In. — The Indiana State Police say they will increase the use of aircraft to find speeding drivers in 2018. Officers will use a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and the VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder) system to do it.
VASCAR uses pre-determined painted lines on the edge of the roadway. The pilot then radios units on the ground to make sure the correct motorist was stopped.
On Tuesday between 2 and 5 p.m. police issued 19 traffic citations(16 for speeding) and 29 warning while patrolling U.S. 41 in Sullivan County.
