Irvin Ison, 89, of Moores Hill passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Irvin was born on Tuesday, December 15, 1931 in Letcher County, Kentucky, the son of Will and Myrtle (Hawkins) Ison. Irvin married his loving wife, Joan (Akemon) Ison and they enjoyed 56 years together before her passing on April 27, 2008. Irvin was a member of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church in Moores Hill. Irvin was the business owner of the Phillips 66 Stations in Moores Hill and Aurora, and he worked many other jobs including driving school bus for the Moores Hill and South Dearborn School Districts, farming, driving his own dump truck, and after retirement he worked for Myers Marathon in Milan. Irvin enjoyed being with family, and especially enjoyed coffee time with people in his local community.
Irvin is survived by his sons Paul (Lana) Ison of Moores Hill and Eugene (Susan) Ison of Milan; daughters Pam (Trace) Cutter of Moores Hill and Shirley (Charlie) Yeary of Moores Hill; brothers Charlie (Betina) Ison of Elrod and Floyd (Minnie Faye) Ison of Moores Hill; sisters Elma Caudill, Bonnie Banks, and Lucy Cornett all of Kingdom Come, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Irvin is preceded in death by his parents, Will and Myrtle, wife Joan, daughter Shelia Ann Ison, sisters Hazel Watts and Maxie Bedwell, and brothers Astor Ison and Will Ison Jr.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Irvin from 4 – 7 PM Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in Moores Hill. A service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 29, 2021 also at the funeral home with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Irvin to the Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
