(Franklin/Ripley Counties, IN) – In partnership with Strand Associates, the Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on Tuesday, October 10, for the proposed State Road 229 Access Management Project in Batesville.
The hearing will take place at the Batesville Public Library (131 North Walnut Street Batesville, IN 47006) and will provide an opportunity for the public to interact with the project team and receive the latest updates on the project.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow attendees time to view displays and talk with project personnel prior to a presentation that will begin at 6 p.m.
The project includes constructing a two-foot-wide median curb between the northbound and southbound lanes of State Road 229. The median will extend from Grayson Street to the signalized intersection at North Kroger Drive, just north of the Northside Drive intersection.
The purpose of this project is to improve the safety and mobility of the corridor by reducing access conflicts at the intersection of State Road 229 and Northside Drive.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2024.
The construction cost is approximately $352,105.00 with both federal and state funds anticipated to be used.
Traffic will be maintained on State Road 229 throughout construction with phased, single-lane closures alternating between the northbound and southbound lanes.
INDOT will coordinate with emergency services, local school corporation officials, and project stakeholders to ensure potential disruptions are minimized.
All interested persons may request a public hearing be held and/or express their concerns by submitting comments to the attention of William Fortson, INDOT Seymour District, 185 Agrico Lane, Seymour, Indiana, 47274 or [email protected] on or before October 25, 2023.
