Indianapolis man arrested for attempted theft

GREENSBURG, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was arrested in Decatur County after police say he tried to return an unpurchased item.

John Deel, 34, was arrested on charges of attempted theft and resisting law enforcement.

According to police, they were called to Walmart regarding a theft.

An officer saw the suspect running away from the store and pursued on foot, and returned him to the store’s asset protection officer, where he was identified.

Police say Deel entered the store without anything, went to the home goods department, picked up a blender, and took it to the customer service desk to try to return it.

An associate questioned Deel about the return, and he ran away.

At the jail, it was discovered that Deel had an outstanding warrant in Warrick County.
