Indianapolis, In. — The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) recently increased the number of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-certified schools in Indiana to 78.
These schools were selected based on their commitment to teaching STEM disciplines, and each completed a rigorous application and review process before receiving certification.
STEM-certified schools take a nontraditional approach to education, as they focus on project-based learning, community engagement, entrepreneurship, student-centered classrooms, and integration into humanities and related arts, among other things.
This increase is a part of the IDOE’s effort to strengthen STEM education across Indiana to help equip students with the skills they need to thrive in STEM-related careers in the future.
