INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is seeking some major changes to how the state schools superintendent is selected.
State chamber leaders issued its priorities for the upcoming legislative session asking to have the superintendent position become Governor-appointed beginning in 2016.
It is currently an elected post held by Glenda Ritz, a Democrat. Indiana voters chose Ritz in 2012 over education incumbent Tony Bennett.
Indiana Governor Mike Pence, a Republican, and Ritz have had well-noted differences in the past year.
