Statewide—In a recent Wallet Hub survey, Indiana is ranked as 3rd for the states with the biggest unemployment increases. To identify which states have experienced the largest unemployment increases, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key metrics. These metrics compare initial unemployment claim increases for the week of March 23, 2020, to both the same week in 2019 and the first week of 2020. Click here for the full Wallet Hub report.

In a press conference on Thursday Governor Eric Holcomb’s team relayed that over 150,000 Hoosiers filed for unemployment last week.  The number is tied for the highest unemployment reached in a one month period in 2008 but occurred over one week this year.  State officials stated that they expect this number to continue in the weeks ahead. Governor Holcomb stated that Indiana will not be releasing the additional $600 per unemployed person stipend until May.
