IN Population Growth Expected to Slow Due to Rising Mortality, Declining Births

(Statewide) – The State of Indiana’s population is growing, albeit a slower pace than of the last 20 years.

A study by the Indiana Business Research Center at the IU Kelley School of Business finds that population growth in the state will become stagnant in the next 20 to 40 years as people move away, die, or couples choose not to have children.

However, some areas around Central Indiana will at least 25% growth. Hamilton, Boone, Hancock, Hendricks, and Johnson counties will grow by least 25% by 2050.

Other areas of the state, both north and south, will continue seeing their population size start to diminish by at least 10- to 15% in the next 15 to 20 years.
