In Memoriam: Gene White 1935-2026

(Milan, IN) – Gene White, one of the key members of the legendary 1954 state champion Milan basketball team, passed away last Saturday in Franklin, where he lived since 1985.

After graduating from Milan High School, White attended Franklin College where he played on the basketball team and was later elected to the school’s athletic hall of fame.

After serving two years in the U.S. Army, White went on to teach and coach basketball at Milan, Batesville and Franklin Community high schools for over 40 years.

He spent 18 years at Milan, and guided the Indians boys’ basketball team to the 1985 East Central sectional championship, and served as the school’s athletic director.

White also taught 25 years at Franklin College and coached the women’s basketball team for 10 seasons.

He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024.

Gene White was 90 years old.
