(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville School Corporation and the Southeastern Indiana athletic community are mourning the passing of Bertha Hazelwood.

She passed away Sunday at Mercy West Hospital.

Part of her obituary on wrbiradio.com reads, “For more than 30 years, Bertha was the heart and soul of Batesville High School athletics—a constant, comforting presence who gave everything she had, and then some, to the students, coaches, and fans who filled the fields and gyms. She served as President of the Athletic Boosters, worked behind the scenes supporting the athletic department, and was a fixture at the concession stand, greeting generations of Bulldog fans with a warm smile.”

Fittingly, memorial contributions may be made to the Batesville Athletic Boosters for the purchase of new concession equipment.

Coaches, administrators and others from Batesville and neighboring schools have expressed their condolences and remembrances on social media.

Bertha Hazelwood was 75.
