ICJI: Make a Game Plan and Commit to Sober Driving This Weekend

(Indianapolis, IN) – As Super Bowl weekend approaches, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is urging people to prioritize safety by committing to sober driving.

This year’s Super Bowl takes place on Sunday, February 9. As fans plan their watch parties, ICJI is encouraging them to plan for how they’ll get home safely.

“The consequences of driving under the influence can last far beyond game day,” said Jim Bryan, ICJI’s Traffic Safety Director. “If your plans include alcohol, make sure they also include a safe way to get home. Don’t turn a night of celebration into a tragedy.”

Impaired driving causes thousands of deaths nationwide each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2022, one person was killed every 39 minutes in a drunk-driving crash on our nation’s roads.

Beyond fatalities, drunk driving carries a range of consequences. Help set your team—your friends, family, and other party-goers—up for a night of success with these tips from the NHTSA. There are plenty of options to help impaired drivers get home safely, such as designating a sober driver or calling a taxi or rideshare service.

To help people with their plans over Super Bowl weekend, ICJI is offering $10 off Uber and Lyft rides from February 8 through February 9.

Up to 1,000 vouchers are available each day. Ride credits are available between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. the following day and must originate in, or have a final destination of, Indianapolis or Fort Wayne.

To redeem a ride credit through the program, visit SoberRideIndiana.com. Then, click on “Redeem Ride Credits” and follow the instructions for the ridesharing service being used. Tips are not included in the discount, and users are responsible for any charges exceeding $10. Possession of the code does not guarantee the availability of the credit.
