BATESVILLE, IN — An estimated 100 Hillrom employees and their supporters protested at the company’s Batesville operations center Friday afternoon over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
The protestors marched from Little Charlies restaurant toward State Road 46.
Hillrom announced last week that it will comply with the U.S. government’s vaccine requirement covering all federal contractors, which the company happens to be.
Employees who decide not to get the shot by the January 4 deadline will be terminated.
Some of the protestors told WRBI they want another option, and that workers should have the right to decide whether or not to take the vaccine.
Franklin County District 1 Councilman Joe Sizemore said, while he doesn’t work for Hillrom, he took part to show support for his friends and neighbors in Franklin County who work for the company and are affected by the mandate.
Sizemore added he’s not sure why the company would jeopardize its future and that of its employees by listening to Washington, DC.
