High School Golf Advances Local Players and Teams

Even as most districts have wrapped up classes for ’23-’24, some high school sports and their athletes are still in action.  The sectional playoffs in boys’ golf have gone on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.  The 3 teams with the best collective scores go on to regionals this Thursday and Friday.  Sectional 28 has been won by Columbus North, with a score of 304 strokes, followed by Columbus North at 318 and Shelbyville, 327.  Those 3 teams go into the regional competition, but new from the IHSAA this year, the low-scoring 3 individual players whose teams don’t advance get to go on.  In Sectional 28 at Greensburg Country Club, they were Owen Eldridge of North Decatur who shot a 77, Ethan Moorman from East Central with a 78, and North Decatur’s Jack Koehne, who tallied 79.   The team scores after the top 3 included Batesville at 330, North Decatur with 331, East Central 337, Milan at 351, Greensburg 355, and Jac-Cen-Del 368.   Sectional 27 was played at Liberty Country Club, where Franklin County took 6th place, and Oldenburg Academy was 8th.  And Sectional 29 at Madison was where South Dearborn played, placing 11th.  The regional the top teams and players will take part in Thursday is Number 6, at Champions Pointe Golf Club of Providence
