Heavy Trash Pickup Week begins Monday in Greensburg

GREENSBURG, IN — The City of Greensburg will conduct the second Heavy Trash Pickup Week starting Monday, August 16.

“It will be on the same day as a resident in the city’s normal trash day,” said Mayor Joshua Marsh. “So if your trash pickup is on Monday, it’s on Monday and if your trash pickup is on Thursday, it’s on Thursday.

“We do ask residents to not set out anything more than 24 to 48 hours in advance. We don’t want items out a week ahead of time,” Marsh added.

In addition, Heavy Trash Pickup Week is limited to people living in the Greensburg city limits.

“We are constantly bombarded with outside of the city heavy trash items,” Marsh said. “This is part of the fee that residents pay each year for their trash service, and when you allow those individuals to bring trash in you’re only raising the cost for those who are utilizing the service fairly.”

Marsh says they will not accept electronics, paint, batteries, appliances, or TVs during Heavy Trash Pickup Week since those items are considered toxic waste. He recommends disposing of them during Decatur County Recycling E-Shred or Tox-Away-Days.

Heavy Trash Pickup Week in Greensburg ends Friday, August 20.
