Statewide —Happy Birthday, Indiana! Today marks 204 years since Indiana became the 19th state.
The Indiana Territorial Capitol was in Vincennes (Knox County), but in 1813 was moved to Corydon (Harrison County), closer to the Ohio River. Corydon remained the seat of government until 1835. Much of the state’s business takes place around the Indiana State Capitol. The current building was completed in 1888 and is home to all executive offices, the Indiana State Senate, the Indiana House of Representatives, and the Indiana State Supreme Court, among others.
The original building no longer stands as it was replaced in 1888 by the current structure. The State House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
